Periyali Villas Zakynthos - Lucy Greenwell and family sample the new improved villas with creche facilities in unspoilt southern Zakynthos
We travelled to Zakynthos in May with our children -Maisie (4) and Jago (3) – and loved our stay at Periyali Villas.
Child friendly accommodation
We found that the villas are all very child friendly and include stair gates, steps in the bathroom and toddler toilet seats, all unused sockets are covered with a socket cover which can only be removed with the provided key. All of the villas have plunge pools and gardens. The garden is gated and the pool is also fenced in with a lockable gate. Baby packs are included for youngest guests including bottle warmers, changing mats and sterilisers- which is a huge help in these days of stringent luggage restrictions.
Creche from 6months
The crèche has shaded outside areas full of a great selection of outside toys, inside is lovely and cool and full of books, games and other activities. The crèche staff are well organised and friendly, and provide lots of fun and great care for the children. There is a separate babies room where they are surrounded by age appropriate toys and can spend quiet time away from the older kids. There is also a separate sleeping room. Outside toys are available for use by guests when the crèche is closed. They have a book and dvd library from which you can borrow.
Eating and beaching...
Nearby tavernas are only a 5 minute walk away past goats and chickens, family run Tridoli was our favourite as it has a childrens playground and lovely home cooked Greek cuisine. The gorgeous Gerakas beach is a further 5 minutes down the quiet road, a shallow gently sloping beach with clear warm water and a few small fish. Most of the beaches in the south of Zakynthos are protected as they are home to loggerhead turtles during their mating and breeding season, when they lay their eggs in the sand on the beaches. This means that the beaches in the south are not over developed and have no water sports apart from the odd pedalo (great for turtle spotting !!) and they are closed at night. More developed beaches 10 mins drive away with lots of water activities and cafes.
