• The only short-haul destination for guaranteed winter warmth
• A wide variety of islands and landscapes from lush green la Gomera to the renowned ‘moonscape’ of Lanzarote
• The smaller islands offer an off the beaten track holiday without being devoid of facilities or being very difficult to get to – try La Gomera or La Palma
• Good choice of accommodation of all types – hotels, villas, apartments, large or small
• Plenty of things to get out and about and see – geysers, mountains, camels….
• Beautiful beaches on Fuerteventura and Lanzarote – the former a windsurfer’s paradise
• Good sized towns or ‘developments’ with plenty of shops, restaurants, cafes and medical facilities
• Most resorts have good sporting and leisure facilities

Things to think about:

• The major islands (Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote)are very developed in parts, so choose carefully. Playa Blanca in Lanzarote is a good choice, as is La Gomera if you don’t mind the short ferry transfer.
• The weather is generally around 22C during the winter months, but most of the islands have a ‘sunny side’, especially Tenerife (the South East). While warm winter weather is the norm, it can’t be guaranteed, especially in December/January
• Sea is Atlantic and can therefore be pretty chilly and rough, although Playa Blanca on Lanzarote is known for being more sheltered
• Fuerteventura is less developed and very beautiful with wide, windswept beaches, but be prepared, it is VERY windy, most of the time

Climate: warm winters, around 22C, with very hot dry summers, around 32C for most of July, August, September
