Why go to Lapland?
Click here for brochures from Lapland specialists
  • Lapland, in Finland’s northernmost region which stretches from just below the Arctic Circle right up to the country’s highest tip, is probably most famous as being home to Father Christmas.
  • But meeting Santa is just part of the pleasure of a trip to Lapland.
The unique, magical and spectacular landscape lends itself to a whole range of activities for both adults and children, from forest biking and mini- snowmobiles, to toboganning, ice fishing… the list is endless.
  • There’s no better place for walking, playing, sleighing in a winter wonderland

Things to think about:

  • Due to extremes of temperature, it is not advisable to take under-twos to Lapland.
  • While Norvista provide special thermal suits, boots and gloves for your holiday, you’ll also need plenty of other layers of clothes to wear underneath these suits (at least 5 layers of clothes made out of natural fibres are recommended). Temperatures can drop to –20 or –30 degrees centigrade. Take extra socks, gloves and scarves. Children will need a balaclava. Take note of all this and you won’t feel a thing!
  • Activities: Winter activities are subject to change depending on weather conditions.
  • Hotels in Lapland are often fairly basic and may not have the range of services you’d expect in an average city hotel.
  • Ensure you have comprehensive insurance that covers you for "winter sports"

Tips:

  • Photography/video etc: Batteries run out quicker in cold temperatures. Use ISO/ASA 400 since the light is limited in Lapland at this time of year.
  • Contact lenses: do NOT freeze in the cold and are actually preferable to glasses.

General information:

  • Travel time: around 3hrs fly time from UK
  • Currency: Approx £1=FIM9. All major credit cards widely accepted
  • Climate: Dry, crisp, cold winters which last around 7 months.
  • Time difference: 2 hours ahead of GMT
